Anna Kournikova shares rare glimpse of children celebrating Spain's World Cup victory

Anna Kournikova offered fans a rare look at family life on Monday, sharing a photograph on Instagram of the three eldest children she shares with longtime partner Enrique Iglesias.

The 45-year-old former tennis professional posted the image to her two million followers, showing daughters Lucy, eight, and Mary, six, alongside Lucy's twin brother Nicholas. All three wore matching Spain soccer jerseys in celebration of the national team's dramatic 1-0 victory over Argentina in the FIFA World Cup Final on July 19.

Spain claimed their second World Cup title at New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with substitute Ferran Torres scoring the decisive goal in the 106th minute of extra time. The victory marked Spain's first World Cup triumph since 2010, while Argentina fell short in their bid to repeat their 2022 championship.

In the photograph, the girls coordinated their outfits with matching purple Crocs, while Nicholas wore white sneakers. Kournikova captioned the post with three red heart emojis, generating more than 133,000 likes from followers.

Growing family

Absent from the snapshot was Grammy Award-winning singer Iglesias, 51, whom Kournikova has been with since meeting on the set of his "Escape" music video in December 2001. The couple, who made their relationship public at the MTV Video Music Awards in August 2002, are known for maintaining strict privacy around their family life.

The longtime couple welcomed their fourth child, a son named Romeo, on December 17, 2025. They revealed the arrival with an Instagram post showing the newborn swaddled in a blanket, captioned "My Sunshine 12.17.2025."

The twins, Nicholas and Lucy, were born on December 16, 2017, while daughter Mary arrived on January 30, 2020. Kournikova's pregnancy with Romeo was confirmed in September 2025, though the couple had kept the news largely private until the birth announcement.

Health concerns addressed

The Instagram post came after a period of concern about Kournikova's health. In January 2025, she was spotted being pushed in a wheelchair while wearing a protective boot, sparking speculation about potential injuries.

Those concerns appeared to be put to rest by early August, when the hands-on mother was seen taking her children to martial arts classes in Miami, where the couple has lived since the late 1990s.

Tennis legacy

Kournikova burst onto the professional tennis scene at age 14 and quickly became one of the sport's most recognizable figures. She reached a career-high singles ranking of eighth in the world and earned over $3.5 million in prize money during her career from 1995 to 2003.

While she never captured a Grand Slam singles title, Kournikova achieved significant success in doubles competition. Partnering with Martina Hingis, she won two Grand Slam doubles titles at the Australian Open in 1999 and 2002, and reached world number one in doubles in November 1999. Her best Grand Slam singles performance came at Wimbledon in 1997, when she reached the semifinals at just 16 years old.

Kournikova retired from professional tennis in 2003 due to persistent pain and injuries. In an interview with The Guardian that year, she reflected on her decision:

"I will only play the game for as long as I'm having fun. It is important to realize that tennis is not the only thing that matters in life."

Her partner Iglesias has achieved his own remarkable success in music, selling over 180 million records worldwide and holding the record for the most number one singles on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart.
