Don Mancini challenges Nicki Minaj's pro-Republican Chucky post

Chucky creator Don Mancini pushed back on Nicki Minaj's use of his horror character to promote Republicans, responding on November 4, 2026, as Democrats regained both chambers of Congress in the US midterm elections.

Competing versions of Chucky

Minaj's Election Day post on X featured an AI-generated Chucky wearing a pink suit and a "Vote Red" badge. She posted it on November 3 with the caption "HAPPY ELECTION DAY!!!"

Mancini's first public response came in a direct reply the following day. He wrote "IMPOSTER" and added, "CHUCKY IS PART OF THE BLUE WAVE THAT WILL WASH AWAY ALL THE CORRUPTION."

His objections also addressed the character's identity and politics. "Chucky has a trans kid. Chucky protects the dolls. Chucky is anti-ICE," he wrote, referring to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement. After predicting a Democratic "blue wave," Mancini posted a blue-haired Chucky with the message, "Too bad, Nicki! No AI, by the way! #bluewave."

The results gave Mancini reason to celebrate: Democrats won control of the House of Representatives and the Senate despite President Donald Trump's campaigning. BBC News reported Democratic Senate victories in Republican strongholds including Texas, Ohio and Kansas. Kansas had last elected a Democrat to the Senate almost 100 years earlier.

Trump acknowledged the opposing party's success in a Fox News interview but rejected suggestions that the outcome reflected dissatisfaction with his leadership. "Congratulations to the Democrats. They did a good job," he said.

The character behind Mancini's response

Mancini's reference to Chucky's "trans kid" concerned Glen/Glenda, the genderfluid offspring of Chucky and Tiffany, his doll bride. Introduced in the 2004 movie Seed of Chucky, Glen/Glenda also figures in the television franchise: in the Chucky series, Chucky says, "I have a queer kid." Mancini has previously discussed the characters' significance for transgender and LGBTQ+ audiences.

That history adds context to his disagreement with Minaj. According to Out.com, the rapper has expressed disapproval and hostility toward the transgender community, including in remarks at an October 25, 2026, Trump rally.

Mancini introduced Chucky in the 1988 film Child's Play and later created the television series bearing the doll's name. Chucky aired on SYFY and USA Network for three seasons from 2021 through 2024 before its cancellation in September 2024. The franchise's most recent feature film was 2017's Cult of Chucky.

Minaj's history with the doll and Trump

Minaj's association with Chucky began long before her public support for Trump. Her verse on Kanye West's 2010 song Monster compares her to the Bride of Chucky, Tiffany Valentine. For Halloween in 2019, Minaj dressed as Tiffany while her husband, Kenneth Petty, dressed as Chucky.

Footage of those costumes resurfaced during the 2024 presidential election and was misleadingly presented as a Trump endorsement. PolitiFact determined that the video dated to 2019 and did not constitute an endorsement.

By 2026, the doll was a recurring presence in Minaj's online commentary. She shared a Chucky image in January while discussing her US citizenship paperwork. Variety reported another use that month, when she attacked journalist Don Lemon over his coverage of an anti-ICE protest.

Her increasingly public backing of Trump marked a change from her earlier criticism of his immigration policies. At a US Treasury Department event in Washington on January 28, 2026, she said, "I am probably the president's No. 1 fan, and that's not going to change." She also said criticism of Trump strengthened her support for him. Trump, in turn, has publicly praised her.

Chucky appeared again in a July post after Trump joked about Minaj at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner. Alongside an image of the doll, she wrote, "How I'll be looking @ the President next time I see him."
