A Bradford base for sales across the country

White trades as Stephen White Books at Albion Mills, Albion Road, Bradford BD10 9TQ. His partner, UK Bookfest, calls the site "the heart of our Bookfest sorting" and says it hosts three large sales there each year.

One Bradford sale, held ahead of World Book Day in March 2025, offered more than 40,000 secondhand books for £1 or less. White told the BBC: "We started off with about 40,000 books, we've probably got between 25-30,000 left."

The operation extends beyond Bradford. UK Bookfest, which describes its used-book pop-ups as the UK's largest, also stages Brand New Book Weekends at venues including the National Conference Centre in Birmingham and Liverpool University's Mountford Hall.

October sale advertises 100,000 books

The current used-book sale at Albion Mills runs from October 23 through October 31, 2026. UK Bookfest advertises 100,000 books, with different prices for adult and children's titles.

Adult books start at £3, with prices falling during the sale. Children's books remain £1 each throughout, and the final day features a £10 fill-a-bag offer.

Admission to UK Bookfest sales is free, and buyers can pay with cash, a card or a mobile phone. For those unable to carry their purchases home, the organizer offers shipping at cost: £6 for 20 kg.

New-book weekend scheduled for December

UK Bookfest also holds Brand New Book Weekend events, which carry no secondhand stock. Books cost £5 each, except for special editions.

The next such event listed for Albion Mills is December 4-6, 2026.
