Purchase terms and limits
The promotion runs from October 22 through November 19, 2026, on Gulf Standard Time, according to GHA DISCOVERY's terms and conditions. All membership tiers receive the same price, with purchases starting at D$10. The D$5,000 limit applies to the combined amount bought in one or more transactions during the offer.
Each DISCOVERY Dollar, or D$, provides $1 toward an eligible hotel bill. GHA began offering the currency for sale in 2024, but only during promotional periods; members cannot buy it year-round.
Points.com hosts the purchase transaction, and all payments are processed in US dollars. Purchases are nonrefundable and cannot be reversed. Residents of restricted countries are not eligible for the offer.
Global Hotel Alliance is a marketing alliance of more than 50 smaller hotel brands, including Kempinski, Anantara and NH Hotels. GHA DISCOVERY is its loyalty program.
What the discount leaves out
The main trade-off is the rewards a member gives up. Cash payments earn 4% to 7% back in D$, depending on status, while the portion of a bill covered by D$ earns nothing. Head for Points therefore considers the purchase more attractive for members without elite status: someone earning 4% gives up less than a top-tier member earning 7%. A bonus D$ promotion for stays can narrow the benefit further.
Redemption restrictions also limit how much of a stay the credit can cover. Taxes, tips and fees are excluded, so members cannot use D$ to settle an entire hotel bill. Head for Points gives the example of a £1,000 UK stay with no tips: only the £833 excluding VAT would be eligible.
Some brands do not allow D$ to cover prepaid room charges, although members can still use the currency for food and drink added to the final bill. Purchased credit expires after 24 months.
Currency costs may also matter. A guest staying in the UK could face a credit card foreign transaction fee when buying D$ in US dollars, even if paying the hotel directly in pounds would avoid that fee.
How one purchase worked in Istanbul
A stay at Çırağan Palace Kempinski Istanbul illustrates both the immediate saving and the rewards trade-off. The Head for Points author booked through GHA for an August 2024 visit, with one room in his name and another for his children in his wife's name. Under the annual purchase limit then in force, each account could buy D$1,500. Together, the two accounts bought D$3,000 for $2,550.
The author waited until after check-in before buying. That avoided committing to $3,000 in credit with a 24-month expiration before he knew the stay would go ahead satisfactorily. He reported that Apple Pay made the purchase straightforward in the GHA DISCOVERY app and that the balance appeared immediately.
The $450 upfront discount was not the full economic saving. As a Titanium member, he would have earned D$210 at the 7% rate by paying that portion of the bill in cash. He nevertheless preferred the immediate $450 reduction to receiving $210 in hotel credit that would expire after 24 months.
No bonus stay promotion was available when he booked. Head for Points notes that if a double-Dollars offer were available and the guest could rebook at the same room rate, paying cash might be the better choice. The example supports checking the available stay promotions before committing to a nonrefundable D$ purchase.
Other uses for DISCOVERY Dollars
Hotel bills are not the currency's only use. According to GHA DISCOVERY, members can earn 5% back in D$ on vacation homes and receive a D$ gift of up to D$2,500 on cruises.
Participating restaurants in London, Sri Lanka, Dubai and elsewhere in the Middle East also allow members to earn and redeem D$. Members can transfer D$ to family and friends through the GHA DISCOVERY app.
For hotel guests, Head for Points suggests watching for purchase promotions when planning a pay-on-departure stay, or a prepaid stay with additional food and drink spending at the property. The ability to buy D$ is intermittent, and the current offer ends November 19.
Membership growth and a planned expansion
The offer comes as GHA reports increased activity across its network. According to GDN Online, third-quarter 2026 total revenue reached $1.04 billion, a 27% year-over-year increase. Room revenue rose 28% to $843 million, driven by a 33% increase in room nights.
New GHA DISCOVERY sign-ups totaled 1.3 million during the quarter, up 17%, bringing membership to 38 million. D$ redemptions increased 58%, while revenue from members staying across different brands rose 53% to $168 million. The alliance added 36 properties during the quarter.
GHA also added Far East Hospitality to its portfolio in October 2026, TTR Weekly reported. The partnership covers 26 hotels and serviced residences with 6,212 rooms in Singapore, Malaysia and Japan, across Oasia, Quincy, Rendezvous, Village and Far East Collection. Those properties are scheduled to join GHA DISCOVERY in early 2027.
