Update on four men arrested on suspicion of raping woman in GP surgery car park

Four men arrested in connection with an alleged rape at a Swindon GP surgery car park have been released on bail with conditions as the investigation continues.

The men, aged 19, 20 and two 21-year-olds, were arrested on Tuesday following a report from a woman in her 30s who alleged she had been sexually assaulted in the early hours of that morning. The incident reportedly occurred in the car park of Great Western Surgery in Farriers Close.

Wiltshire Police confirmed on Wednesday evening that all four men had been interviewed by detectives and subsequently bailed. Under standard police procedures, bail conditions in such cases typically include measures to safeguard complainants, such as restrictions on contact with the complainant or witnesses, residence requirements, and exclusion zones. Pre-charge bail can initially be authorized for up to 28 days by a Police Inspector, with extensions requiring superintendent approval for up to three months.

Ongoing investigation and police presence

A crime scene remained in place at the GP surgery car park on Wednesday as forensic investigations continued. Detective Inspector Tom Straker addressed community concerns, stating that police were not currently looking for anyone else in relation to the incident. He noted that residents might notice an increased police presence in the area and encouraged anyone with concerns to approach officers.

The incident has occurred against a backdrop of violence and sexual offences representing the most common crime category in Swindon. Between February 2025 and January 2026, such offences accounted for 38 percent of all recorded crimes in the town, with 6,459 incidents recorded at a rate of 34.4 per 1,000 residents. Despite this, Swindon's overall crime rate of 81.7 per 1,000 residents remains below the England and Wales average of 96.7 per 1,000.

Appeal for information

Detectives are continuing to appeal for information from anyone who was in the Farriers Close area during the early hours of Tuesday morning. Officers are particularly interested in hearing from anyone with CCTV or dash cam footage from the time period. Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting log number 54260123495.
