Aaron Engineering Group secures Arbuthnot funding for expansion

Aaron Engineering Group (AEG) has secured a funding package from Arbuthnot Commercial Asset Based Lending (ACABL) to support its next phase of growth. The Stockport-based engineering and infrastructure services business will have substantially more working capital available under the arrangement.

Funding for further infrastructure projects

Chief executive John Lowndes said AEG's rapid expansion required more financial support than its existing arrangements provided. The business had largely funded itself, supplemented by a small working capital facility.

Lowndes described the funding process as straightforward. He said Richard Ackers understood AEG's needs immediately after attending a meeting and seeing its presentation. Lowndes also praised the ease of dealing with the other Arbuthnot staff involved and said the partnership gave the group strong backing for its growth plans.

Ackers, ACABL's director of business development for the North East, described the package as comprehensive and AEG's team as highly ambitious. He said the facilities would increase the group's funding headroom, allowing it to pursue additional infrastructure projects in rail, security and high-voltage electrical systems.

Lee Hayes of accounting firm Armstrong Watson brought the opportunity to ACABL and advised AEG throughout the process.

ACABL serves business-to-business small and midsize enterprises and lower mid-market companies, offering asset-based lending and cash flow loans. Its facilities typically range from £1 million to £35 million, with invoice discounting at the center of their structure.

Rail, security and electrical services

AEG works across the UK's critical infrastructure sectors, combining engineering services through businesses that include Aaron Rail, Aaron Access and Aaron HV Systems. It also maintains regional offices in Yorkshire, Cumbria and Warwickshire.

Aaron Rail provides trackside workers and specialist rail engineering services. Its Principal Contractors' Licence with Network Rail permits it to carry out its own rail-controlled infrastructure work and oversee other suppliers and subcontractors.

The group's activities also include civil engineering and security through Aaron Civils and Aaron Guard. Aaron Access supplies systems such as automatic gates, barriers and CCTV, alongside fire and security services and facilities management support. Aaron HV Systems handles the design, installation and commissioning of high-voltage electrical infrastructure, including substations and transmission networks.

AEG's corporate website lists seven specialist divisions: Aaron Rail, Aaron Access, Aaron Guard, Aaron Fire & Security, Aaron FM, Aaron HV and Aaron Civils.

Company-reported scale and filed accounts

On its website, AEG says it has achieved annual revenue of more than £20 million and employs over 200 people across its divisions.

Separately, Companies House figures compiled by Endole show that Aaron Engineering Group Limited recorded revenue of £18.02 million in the year ended March 31, 2025, an increase of 1.9% from the previous year. The reported employee count was 172, down 9.5%, while net assets stood at £665,000 and the debt ratio was 90%.

Aaron Engineering Group Limited, company number 12709136, was incorporated on July 1, 2020. Its group accounts for that reporting period were submitted on December 23, 2025.

Origins in a Stockport garage

The business dates back more than 25 years. Its origins were in 1994, when Nigel Eastwood left Taylor-Orme Engineering and established Aaron Access as a sole trader in his grandfather's car repair garage in Hazel Grove, Stockport.

Eastwood initially made, welded and installed large residential gates. The business subsequently shifted its focus from manufacturing to services.

Aaron Engineering Group was later established as the holding company for Aaron Rail, Aaron Access and Aaron HV, bringing the three businesses under common ownership. Founders Nigel Eastwood and Danny Ferguson held equal shares.
