How the deadlines compare
American Airlines accepts online meal orders from premium-cabin customers as early as 30 days before takeoff, with a deadline of 20 hours before departure, according to its published premium dining policy.
United Airlines' policy allows customers to select meal preferences starting five days before a flight. The usual cutoff is 24 hours before departure, though preordering ends 48 hours ahead on select flights.
The policies apply to different offerings: Delta's change concerns Delta One entrée pre-selection, American's covers premium-cabin dining, and United's addresses meal preferences.
More choices before boarding
Delta's announcement on Delta News Hub also detailed an expanded Delta One pre-selection menu, adding gluten-free meals, lighter fare and pre-arrival options.
Long-haul customers can opt out of the morning meal service and instead have coffee and a croissant before landing.
A broader Delta One rollout
The longer ordering window is part of what Delta calls its biggest investment and most comprehensive Delta One redesign in nearly 30 years.
The overhaul debuts in fall 2026 on transoceanic Delta One services departing Los Angeles International Airport. Delta plans to extend it throughout its global network in 2027.
