Scope and entry details

The award seeks to recognize positive change across this range of applicants. Organizers say the £20,000 in prize money is intended to help the winner grow, reach more people and increase the impact of their work.

Organizers are inviting potential applicants to come forward and encouraging anyone who knows a possible candidate to help identify them. Full details and entry guidelines are available on the Nichols Award website.

The organizer and the first winner

The Nichols Group runs the award. Led by sisters Frances and Kathryn Nichols, the UK transformational change consultancy has spent more than 50 years working on major programs and complex projects. Its work spans regeneration, infrastructure, technology and the environment, according to UK Fundraising.

The Washing Machine Project won the inaugural award in 2022. The UK social enterprise supplies manual washing machines that operate off-grid to displaced and low-income communities. By June 2026, it had distributed hundreds of machines, positively affecting 105,000 people, according to information reported by UK Fundraising.
