instantprint installs two presses delivering up to 40% faster production

Two new Heidelberg Speedmaster XL106-8P presses are running up to 40% faster than the equipment they replaced at instantprint's Manvers factory, the company says. The installation is part of a £12 million factory investment program that also includes a Canon inkjet press.

Automation and shorter setup times

Employees at the Brookfields Park factory on Manvers Way have completed training on the Heidelberg machines. Company leaders hope the increased productivity will shorten turnaround times for customer orders.

Heidelberg attributes the speed improvement to shorter makeready times, advanced automation and integration with its Prinect workflow. According to the manufacturer's press release, the machines are equipped with Plate to Unit, LED UV and fully automated Push to Stop technology.

Laura Mucklow, head of instantprint, said: "Our customers depend on us to deliver quality print quickly. These presses are already running up to 40 per cent faster than the equipment they replace, giving us more capacity to meet growing demand and keep that service dependable."

She added: "Faster setup and less manual handling also give our manufacturing teams more time to focus on print quality."

Mucklow said: "This investment supports our growth and the businesses across the UK that rely on us."

Canon press adds capacity and new products

The same investment program includes a Canon varioPRINT iX3200 high-speed inkjet press. instantprint puts its output at around 9,120 double-sided SRA3 sheets an hour, or 152 sheets a minute, with support for coated and uncoated stocks up to 350 gsm.

instantprint says the Canon machine has also enabled new products, including a range of personalized NCR (No Carbon Required) pads. The pads were among the first products introduced using the press and were launched to target the NCR pad market.
